Just a note

In scored ordinal data, we only know that some observations are greater than others, not how much. Therefore we cannot know how much weight to attach to each observation. The differences may be slight, or could be very great indeed - the importance of each observation will vary accordingly.

Calculating a mean assumes we can attach the same importance to each observation.
