These curves are exceedingly theoretical entities. They certainly do NOT indicate the proportion of values at each value of x. One reason for this is that, if measured with total accuracy, each value of x is unique - or, to be more exact, because the number of potential values is effectively unlimited, the probability of obtaining two identical measurements by chance is so vanishingly small that it is effectively zero. The only reason the normal distribution is 'hump-shaped' is because you are more likely to randomly select a value close to the mean.
