The factorial of any positive whole number, n, is n×[n-1]×[n-2]... ×1, and is written as n!

Notice that n! is assumed to obey what is known as a 'recurrence relationship', where n! = [n-1]!×n. As a result, 1! = 1 and, rather perversely, 0! = 1.
