Just a note

The Stomoxynes are small dark blood-sucking Diptera, that look like something halfway between a housefly and a gnat. Many species of Stomoxys larvae live and pupate in manure - and in warm damp weather, at some locations, the adults can be extremely common. When present in large numbers, swarms of these irritating insects cause considerable annoyance - and reduce livestock productivity. A variety of insecticidal and repellent sprays, pour-ons and ear tags are used to control biting and nuisance insects - with varying degrees of success.
