Just a note

The frequency of readings should be dictated by how rapidly the variable you are measuring is likely to change. The first reading here (which is arbitrarily numbered day 0) would have been taken on the 31st December 2002. In effect, the lines between points are a linear interpolation between readings.

The second graph shows how these results should be plotted if the decline in May had been missed - as would occur if no readings were taken, or if there were some obvious and intractable problem with the May results. The dotted interpolation alerts the observer that these data are missing.
